Crowd-based couriers have already transformed the transport and foodservice industries and are discreetly making their way into grocery retail too. This practice is not unheard of in Europe, but retailers experiment with many alternative to cut the costly last miles while reaching shoppers at home.
Carrefour Romania has become the major shareholder of Bringo, an online platform organising home delivery by courier. The available online assortment naturally varies by store, but can reach up to 35,000 food and non-food products for a Carrefour hypermarket.
Schwarz Group’s international presence allows the retailer to cherry pick the best from one country, make it scalable and roll it out everywhere. This applies to both its own or its competitors’ ideas; to marketing or category concepts. Anyone could copy these ideas, they don't even have to be expensive.

We believe the acquisition to be a masterstroke for Majid Al Futtaim and will strengthen the retailer's strategy centred around a multi-format proposition and online push.
